Laura Bowman
Biography

In her career as a lawyer and a community advocate Laura Bowman has been an effective voice standing up for her community.  Laura grew up in Holland Landing and locals know her best for fighting against a proposed incinerator in East Gwillimbury and advocating for better environmental protection on a number of energy, sewer and transportation projects in the riding.

Laura has a passion for social and environmental justice and she has worked as an environmental lawyer and civil litigator for the past seven years. Her legal work includes working with community groups building affordable housing, and representing community groups on water and land protection.  She also represents aggrieved employees.

Her priorities in the riding include curbing sprawl, planning reform, improving services such as transit, attracting more affordable and supportive housing, and protecting the land and water that make York-Simcoe such a special place to live.

As a lawyer who has worked in the public, private and non-profit sectors, often working with social enterprises, she has a unique perspective on how to grow, attract and finance more local businesses.

Laura has lived and worked across Canada and has volunteered with successful NDP campaigns in Edmonton, and Toronto.

Laura Bowman has a Juris Doctor in Law from the University of Toronto and a degree in Canadian Studies from McGill University

She is a regular contributor to Lake Simcoe Living, Rabble.ca and is co-editor of an environmental law newsletter.
